Tony Blair and George Bush mounted a show of solidarity over the Iraq
crisis yesterday, insisting that Britain and America were determined
to bring peace and stability to the country despite the increasing
bloodshed.
Following emergency talks at the White House, the two leaders vowed
they would not back down in either their military or political plans
for Iraq. They promised that the plan to hand power over to an interim
Iraqi administration on 30 June would be achieved. And they confirmed
they wanted the transfer to be backed by a United Nations resolution
intended to win wider international support for the coalition's
strategy in Iraq.
