OT: (but not that much) How Hugh Hefner Destroyed Earth! |
Ah the religious reich. They get funnier by the moment.
Cal Thomas is now apparently blaming the AIDS epidemic in Africa (among a
host of other things) on Hugh Hefner.
http://www.jewishworldreview.com/cols/thomas1.asp
You know, if Hefner is *that powerful, we should all start kissing up to
him *right *now before he sends the plagues of locust...

I wasn't aware that there was such an Continental African following of
"Playboy." I wonder what the shipping costs are?

Isn't Cal Thomas one of those idiots that Fox has on one of their

of them are conservative nutbags.
Don't get me started on Colmes, either.

Yup! Maybe she was Miss October '86? Can't remember. Though I suppose I
could just pull her pics out of my stash. I keep thinking I'll get around
to actually drawing portraits again someday. She's in storage with all the
other pictures (people, places and things) I've hoarded for that.

It'll be quite awhile before I try drawing people. I'm working on
figuring this drawing stuff out. Lately, I stumbled over a website
(www.wetcanvas.com) which teaches, demonstrates, critiques, assists each
other with all sorts of mediums. (photography, clay, pencil, pen and
ink, oils, water colours, and more) There are even reference photos of
all sorts of things you can utilize in your work. You can even sell
your work via the site. I bought a print a couple days ago, and it
should be here next week.
Last night I uploaded a beginning drawing of a castle wall (pencil) and
part of the entrance gate area. Now I've got to add a couple of dragons
to it. That's really going to be a ***** as I've never worked with
'eyeball scale' to this degree.

Coolness :)
Me, I just got back from buying a new notebook and a pack of loose-leaf
paper. The notebook is slated for plot outline and ideas for that damnable
book of mine; the paper is for finishing Chapter 6 and getting started on
Chapter 7 (I'm slowly revising--but since the hard drive crash of March
'03, pretty much all of the notes and ideas I had were lost).
I thought having a laptop would prod my interest--but I still keep going
back to paper and a good pen.

figuring this drawing stuff out. Lately, I stumbled over a website
(www.wetcanvas.com) which teaches, demonstrates, critiques, assists
each other with all sorts of mediums. (photography, clay, pencil, pen
and ink, oils, water colours, and more) There are even reference
photos of all sorts of things you can utilize in your work. You can
even sell your work via the site. I bought a print a couple days ago,
and it should be here next week.
Last night I uploaded a beginning drawing of a castle wall (pencil)
and part of the entrance gate area. Now I've got to add a couple of
dragons to it. That's really going to be a ***** as I've never worked
with 'eyeball scale' to this degree.
Update...the print arrived last night. Excellant.
I shrank the castle entrance gate and have both dragons roughed out.
Coolness :)
Made some mods to both dragons and have been working on painting the
green dragon.
Comfort zone is pen and paper.

Yup! Maybe she was Miss October '86? Can't remember. Though I suppose
I could just pull her pics out of my stash. I keep thinking I'll get
around to actually drawing portraits again someday. She's in storage
with all the other pictures (people, places and things) I've hoarded
for that.
It'll be quite awhile before I try drawing people. I'm working on
figuring this drawing stuff out.
I was never much for technique--I didn't like Art class very much, even
though I could sit and draw as long as I had drafting tools. I hated
drafting class, mostly because of the structure and tight-assed teacher
(though there's also the fact that in both classes I was drawing what I
wanted to draw, not was I was supposed to). I still have trouble accepting
that creative endeavours have rules to be learned, whether it's writing,
drawing, music, or basketweaving.
I think the big thing, though, is that almost all of my drawings were done
in high school, where I generally had an audience of impressionable teens
who fed my creative ego by complimenting my work--something the teachers
weren't doing. Once I got out of school, I no longer had an audience.
I was the same way with my book; I had a pair of women (well, a woman and a
girl) who were utterly into Fantasy books. They devoured every page, never
sated, always wanting the next page, the next chapter. Then I moved away
and haven't found a new audience.
It was a shock for me to realize this, a few weeks ago. I've always
considered myself a loner who doesn't need approval...but I've come to
realize just how badly I do need it. It's put a lot of things in my past
into an entirely new light, rarely ever flattering. I'll have to think it
over--and find a way to work it into a short or a novel.

I've had drafting in college some twenty odd years ago and had no need
for it since. IMO, the teacher can make or break the class. There are
rules, yes, imo, to assist your path. Once you know them you can break
them.

LOL. Let's just say that the next time I see 60 it won't be my age.
60 still seems like a long way off, even if it's only 24 more years. But I
can still remember sitting in second grade or so working a really big math
problem: I wanted to see how much longer it would be until I was 30, and
what year it would be then. 1997 seemed like an eternity away when I was 7
or so.

When I was 7 the turn of the 21st century seemed like impossibly far
away. It was still the first half of the 20th century back then.

I've thought about it for a few days (on top of the near-constant thinking
about it I'd already done before that). There's really nothing I'm
passionate about anymore--at least not for more than a few days or weeks at
a time. I've eliminated a lot of possibilities, so now I know I won't be
trying for careers in programming, Web design, auto repair, computer
repair, electronics repair, medicine, drafting...
Plenty of just-a-jobs out there...but I'm looking for more than another
worker-bee thing.
Argh.

I asked as I wasn't looking at 'another worker-bee' thing, but was
looking at you starting your own company. Sure, it can be a part-time

IMO, unless you're passionate about something (such is hefty motivation)
then the only thing left is the dratted 'worker-bee.'

Maybe I should get a gummint job; then I could get paid for the nothing I
already do...
I put in an application at a local movie theater this afternoon. I have GOT
to escape from RGIS.
I did three heavy stores back-to-back (Beall's department store, K-Mart,
and Albertson's) in less than 48 hours, with no sleep between the first two
and 4 hours of sleep before the third one. By the end of that third store I
was, bluntly, fucking hostile (most of it was from counting the exact same
***** on display for a year, and all the same things that wouldn't scan
over the last year wouldn't scan this time either. They don't use the
data we give them at all! The rest of the hostility comes from being
utterly furious at my own managers' incompetence at scheduling these
stores so poorly, even for January). I found a little blood-pressure booth
at the Albertson's and ran it...my BP was in triple digits above and below,
like 160/140 or something like that. All I remember was the triple digits.
Can't be good for the old pump to be under so much stress.
