Well, if the senate based their opinions on the intelligence presented
to them by the elected officials, and that intelligence proved to be a
buch of horseshit, then I would feel disgusted if they didn't change
their opinion.

How familiar do we need to be?
What's the difference between the intelligence seen by these
committees, the intelligence seen by the President, and the
intelligence presented to the public by the government?
