The number of hits on Canada's main immigration website has shot up *six*
*times* since the election. Can't think why!
http://uk.news.yahoo.com/041105/325/f62eb.html
According to the article, Ottawa alone is seeking to attract 240,000
newcomers next year. All you kids approaching draft age might want to be
first in the queue.

I guess you didn't hear the news. Flipper lost the election, therefore
there will be no need for a draft.

You mean Shrub's going to keep recycling the current armed forces until they're
all dead of exhaustion, if nothing else?

Fred is just ignorant. Don't try to confuse him with facts, he simply

Because a lot of people have been posting or putting it up as posts
and websites - that and the famous map of "United States of Canada" -
as humor and/or dark humor.

The a draft is much less likely than had Kerry won the presidency, and
it's not the reason Canada has become a popular topic to make fun
about anyway. It's because most democrats in America see Canada as a
quite left of the middle country, when in fact, the liberals, who have
been hit by scandal after scandal, are on a downward slope and there
is no reason to expect the next election to fare better for them than
the last.
Regardless, a mass migration isn't going to happen. It's just humor, a
way for some people to vent their disappointment. If people packed up
and left everytime their side didn't win an election, that would
signal the end of democracy as we know it. Very few people, maybe one
in a million, is that dumb, especially since the difference in
lifestyle you will experience between Canada and US is even less than
the difference between extremes within the US. So if you live in rural
Texas and are not happy, by all means, move to NYC, but don't expect
Southern Alberta to be any different.

"Ottawa" is used in the same sense as "Washington" is sometimes used
in the U.S., i.e. as a synonym for the federal government. This
figure is consistent with Canada's stated immigration policies for
the past decade or so.

Agreed. The draft is on its way. Bush and Cheney want you to do the
things they were too cowardly to do or "had other priorities." But
don't think the "other priorities" line will work for you.
