OT: Department of War ...WayOT |
(Stop now if you want to read something about atheism.)
Subsection: Miscellaneous Ramblings
To preface: In the US, until the 1940's there was a "Department of
War." Shortly after WWII, it was renamed the "Department of Defense"
The irony to me is that the "Department of Defense" has waged war much
more in the last 56 years then the "Department of War" waged in the
previous 160+ years. Useless, foolish wars. I'm all for defense, and I
consider our fighting men and women as good as the world has to offer,
but wasting precious lives on political caprice is something I find
myself unable to support.
It hasn't been a democrat or republican thing, both have been guilty.
While the goals have been lofty and perhaps noble, the cost has been
too high. Thus far the price hasn't justified the expense, IMHO. To
say that the results have been acceptable, that peace was
accomplished, I consider sophistry.
Maybe it's time to rename it "Department of War" again. Perhaps its an
intimidation thing.
May god (heh, heh) help us all if W renames it the "Department of
Peace" There, that's my political statement of the day.
I'm sorry, I had to vent. Living in Alabama doesn't make it easy to
air my political or religious views.

The Bushies, including Barbara Bush, consider the armed forces as toys
to be casually spent. Others, unless of the proper 'breeding,'
'ideology,' and income brackets are of less worth than a penny.

Honesty thing, imo.

Hello, theocracy with a fundamentalist US Supreme
Court who will ensure church and state are joined
at the hip like clergy and altar boys.

"As democracy is perfected, the office of president
represents, more and more closely, the inner soul
of the people. On some great and glorious day the
plain folks of the land will reach their heart's

by a downright moron." --- H.L. Mencken (1880 - 1956)
