In the interests of the millions of Africans who depend on the sale of
diamonds for economic growth and social investment, I would like to
address the points raised in Lucy Mangan's article (The 2005 Christmas
bad gift guide, G2, December 6). Contrary to what is implied, buying a
diamond does not fuel bloodshed in Angola, Democratic Republic of Congo
and Sierra Leone. These countries are now at peace, in part due to the
success of the Kimberley process, of which they are all members.
