before voting for them, tensions between religion and politics have
been simmering.
On one side, those who believe religion is about loving one's god and
one's neighbour - and the latter can be achieved by a politics shaped
by faith. On the other side, those who see warning signs from America,
and plead for the state to rest on secular principles, and religion to
be confined to the private sphere.
