Just saw on CNN (no link for this) the St. Bernard sheriff's office just
went broke. The military wandered off before the mandatory Rita evacuation
was finished so their officers are doing it without prospect of being paid.
In the mean time, the state itself is hemorrhaging money and has a budget
freeze on. One estimate of the current budget deficit is around $1 billion.
But, hey, long as Halliburton is getting contracts, all's right with the
world.
(Oh, looks like Entergy is about to file for bankruptcy)
