As I expected, we're being pretty much written off. Typical of Bush. He
gives a big speech then somebody jingles their keys and he wanders off,
distracted by the shiny.

My favorite part is the state Republican party has pounced on the fact
that heavily Democratic Orleans parish (which is New Orleans) has been
ethnically cleansed... erm, I mean... never mind. Anyway, almost all the
damn Democrats are scattered around the US. So, in order to prevent
"fraud," the state Republican party wants to cut off registration by mail
and absentee voting for the Democrats... erm, I mean displaced persons.
All in defense of democracy of course. How can you protect democracy if
you have to count votes? Didn't the Supreme Court rule back in 2000 that
counting votes in an election is unfair?

" In other legislative news, at the urging of Bruneau, the party's
governing board voted to oppose House Bill 59 by Rep. Jalila
Jefferson-Bullock, D-New Orleans, which would authorize
hurricane-displaced voters who have registered by mail, but never voted in
person, to cast ballots for up to a year by mail in local and state races.
The bill also requires each displaced voter to file an affidavit saying he
or she is living out of the precinct or state because of a hurricane.
"Bruneau called the bill 'an invitation to voter fraud.'"
(Translation: you'll just be letting a bunch of black Democrats vote and
that's just *wrong!)
And you gotta love FEMA. They just handed out a contract for house
trailers and RVs to a motorcycle shop that's never built, sold, nor
delivered a single trailer.

Yeah, yeah, it's politically connected *locally and, yeah, there really is
corruption in Louisiana politics (unlike the other 49 bastions of
political purity!). I guess FEMA decided to join in the fun?
You know that the savings and loan fiasco cost this country $600 billion
in federal tax money?
A bunch of corrupt, incompetent rich fucks caused a banking crisis and we,
as a nation, spent $600 billion to fix their mess. But Congress is worried
that Louisiana might be "irresponsible."
Yeah. Sure thing. Uh huh.
Whatever.
