The reactions I see in this thread show some extreme lack
of common sense. Sure Faux News distorts the news, but
they are no so stupid as to intentionally claim
that Foley is a Democrat. I rather doubt that much
thought is involved in making all of those stupid
scrolling headlines at the bottom of the screen. Some
ignorant or possibly careless kid made a mistake creating
the scroll. I would be quite sure that in the actual
newscasts, the anchors, reports, talking heads, etc.
got Foley's party affliation correct. If they
had done so, I am sure it would be all over the web.
It should also be pointed out that the Associated Press
made the exact same mistake.
Checking Fox News right now, I notice that they have scrolls
based on AP reports ("AP: [Whatever]") so there is a possible
hypothesis though I won't insist that is what happened.
They just spent way too much time on the jerk who falsely
claimed to have killed the Ramsey girl and are promising the same
for the Amish killings. Overhyping sensational crimes
just makes me want to vomit so I will bail...
So checking their horribly designed web site, I find
that they claim that Foley is a Republican.

No. The Daily Show actually delivers hard news, at least as accurately as
CNN. Just in a (often) smarter and funnier way.
That's been a recent news item unto itself.

The legality that permits this is "Let the buyer beware". It covers all
political mudslinging, B.S. and outright lies. While Martha Stewart can

The comment was facetious. And the legality that permits people to talk
freely even when they're wrong is called the First Amendment.

It covers all political mudslinging, B.S. and outright lies.

It certainly does.

While Martha

Thanks for the laugh. Martha Stewart was thrown in jail for having
misled the gov in their investigation into her stock trades. She just
should have kept her mouth shut.

Unless you're being questioned in a criminal investigation, in which case

lawyers?

Bullsh!t like this is the reason why I watch/get news from three sources
before I believe it. Honestly though, I watch fox news a good deal, and
they are obviously right leaning, but frequently factually accurate. CNN
appears to be the most neutral, with certain personalities left leaning.
While MSNBC is painfully left leaning, and frequently factually accurate.
I watch Fox News, because they seem to have the smallest delay in event
happening to appearing on my screen time. Then I check anything that
could affect me on the web or the other news stations.

I think we have to write this one off as incompetence. If they'd
*intentionally* labeled him a Democrat, they sure as hell wouldn't
have overlayed spokesmutant Ann Coulter telling us what

It would be great fun to really put Ann the Man on the spot:

Just saw this on The Daily Show and then found it on Google Video. They

Each time I've actually paid attention to Fox News, I've had to ask
myself if they're really that dishonest or just mind-bogglingly
incompetent. I'm not talking about O'Reilly or Hannity or that bunch,
but just the regular headline news readers. It's amazing how often
they just get things *wrong*, or don't proofread copy before slapping
it up on screen.

I'm not even sure which speaks worse of the network; I think I'd have
an easier time accepting smart people who are openly lying than really
stupid people who think they're telling the truth.

Perhaps they've read their 'Pravda'.

I have an easier time dealing with assholes who know they're being
assholes... so Cheney, Rove, et al I can deal with just fine. I can
afford guys like these (some) level of respect, akin to the kind of
respect one has to give to someone like Goebbels. These guys know what
it takes to stay on top and aren't afraid, nor ashamed to pull out
anything they can to accomplish their goals. Even someone like Bob
Kolker who wants to kill all muslims. Impossible to do and the totally
the wrong way to solve the problem but at least he's not afraid to say
it.
It's people like the audience of Fox News that really get under my
skin. They have thoroughly convinced themselves the assholes they
support are angels.

I think if you talk to some you'll find a lot less "they're angels"
and a lot more "they're marginally better than the alternative".

Obviously the liberal media has been been going around saying Foley is
a Republican. Only Fox News wouldn't stoop to such a level.

I guess that is "fair and balanced" reporting: if the "liberal" media
get to call Foley a Republican, then it's only fair if Fox gets to call
him a Democrat.

So what party is he in, have he and his party been pushing family
values including being vociferously against his kind of behaviour, and
has his party been covering up his behaviour until now?

Seriously, he's a Republican, the party that is in power now, and which
makes the biggest deal of not publicly excusing various non-standard
sexual behavior. Foley himself fulminated against sexual predators
picking on the underaged. Ultimately, Republicans don't behave any
better than Democrats, but their ideology requires that they pretend
that they do, making their hypocrisy all the more blatant.
