LOS ANGELES (Reuters) - New Jersey health officials addressing an E.coli
outbreak on Wednesday asked Taco Bell restaurants in the state to throw
out all their food and better train workers in hygiene and food handling.

In restaurants known to have associated E.coli cases, Jacobs said food
workers should have their stool tested for E.coli...
Am I mis-remembering Microbiology 101? Isn't E.coli the predominant
bacteria in the colon? Wouldn't you expect that *everyone* has E.coli in
their stool?

Am I mis-remembering Microbiology 101? Isn't E.coli the
predominant bacteria in the colon? Wouldn't you expect
that *everyone* has E.coli in their stool?
No doubt Jacobs means the workers should be tested for
strains such as E. coli O157:H7, not just the common types
found in the human gut. The reporter, of course, might not
know that non-toxic E. coli is common in humans.

There are some TBs in Connecticut that are involved now too.
Moral: Another reason to not eat at TB for at least a few weeks (not
that eating there was ever a really good idea).
