O.T. How to eat brie |
I googled it but the only site that said it was about how to eat brie
was a porn site.
I have not tried eating the rind, some people do.
So when I am served a melted brie wheel with bananas, grapes, toasted
almonds, and a small baggett, what is the proper way to share it with
friends and how is the best way to get the gooey inside out of it.
I know this is inane but I love brie.

That's what you do with Budweiser.

Budweiser, like most American beers, is like sex in a canoe: fucking close
to water.

That's emphatically true of American Budweiser, and generally true
of pretty much all mass-produced American beers. However, there
really is lots of good American beer; it's just that it's
generally only made locally, in small batches. ``Microbreweries''
is the catchphrase.
There's one such brewery down the road from me, /almost/ within
walking distance: the Rio Salado Brewing Company. While I have had
better beers, I haven't had many better beers. They're one of my
favorites, and would be quite welcome at just about any table in
the world.

Eat the whole thing, especially if it's melted. The rind is at
least as healthy as the cheese, and--in my opinion, at least--it
adds a wonderful dimension to the flavor. The cheese by itself is
good; the rind by itself is okay; the two together are what makes
the cheese what it is.
If you really don't like the rind, I suppose your best bet would
be to trim it off when the cheese is very cold. I'd call it an
abomination to do so, but, hey! it's your life to ***** up as you
like.
Have a look here:
http://www.houseoftricks.com/lunchmenu.htm
and scroll down halfway or so. The menu description is the recipe,
basically; just broil it open-faced until nice and hot. It's quite
good (though, of course, the ingredients are everything).
Oh--as to your actual question of how to serve the brie with
fruit. If the friends are close, just as you described it, and use
the bread (esp. the crust, which should be substantial) to carve
up the cheese. If they're not that close, a butter knife will do
the trick. Whether you cut the cheese into wedges or not is an
artistic thing up to the chef's sensibilities. I'd probably cut it
into wedges, turn them around and arrange them in a circle--but
you'd have to do that before baking. If you've got parchment
paper, it'd be perfect for this--trim the paper to the size of the
serving platter. Put the paper on the sheet you'll be baking it
on. Arrange the cheese. Bake. Slide the paper onto the serving
platter. Arrange the fruit and nuts in a pleasing manner, serve,
and enjoy!
Dang...you got me hungry, and I just finished a late lunch,
too....
What lucky friends you have.
Cheers,

You could even use an ovenproof plate or dish, put the paper on it,
arrange the cheese and bake the whole. That way it's easy to serve and the
brie stays hot longer.

With the stronger flavoured cheeses try a tawny port.
