OT: I was in a used bookstore today... |
....and I found an interesting little book entitled, "The Rants,
Raves and Thoughts of Moammer Khadafy".
A lot of it is crackpot nonsense, like this gem:
"The whole world knows that it [Diana Spencer's death] was
a premeditated murder. The file contains enough evidence
for the world."
But he has a few interesting quotes that actually do make sense
and seem prescient, especially in light of events (the taliban,
the PNAC) since the book came out in 1997.
"I wish Afghanistan had become communist; the situation in
the world would have been much better than it is now."
"If America wants to appoint itself as an international
policeman, it will have to pay the price: the lives of
American citizens."
"All military aircraft or cruise missiles must be placed
inside museums. The best solution is to address the
economic, political and medical bases of international
disputes."
"Naturally, there are imperialist circles manipulating
Clinton. Damn them. They are in the Pentagon, State
Department, CIA, National Security Council, and the 400
families of the largest companies. These are the hellish
circles manipulating the world in the name of America."
Maybe he knew something everyone else missed.

Depends on how good you think the KBG was. The Soviets
(like the Russians today) were always just as eager to sell
their intelligence assesments as they were their weapons.
It is virtually impossible that Kaddafi (or however you want
to spell his name) was not getting this kind of information
from the Russians.
Anyhow, the Russians most certainly do believe in the
power behind the thrown. One of the reasons they caved
during the Cuban Missile Crisis was due to their belief
that JFK was losing control. Of course, with men like
Curtis LeMay running things at the Pentagon, they had
to be at least close to the truth...
