In the week before the street revolutions on the top of the world
toppled the King of Nepal, a small, secretive group of men gathered in
the Paradise hotel in the alleys of Kathmandu.
They were Newar, the ethnic group that considers the Nepali capital
their land. The Newar were largely absent from last month's historic
road protests, even though their people were prominent in the 1990
pro-democracy protests. This time, the group of men said, let others do
the fighting.
