OT: Iris Scans For Iraqi Civilians |
Meanwhile, there's no water or electricity in
Fallujah.

""When people start to return, military aged men will be entered into a
biometric (system). Their fingerprint and iris scans will be taken and they
will be given an ID card," Sattler said.
"We're doing this to establish a database."
Suspected rebels captured in the aftermath of last month's massive US-led
assault on Fallujah have all been similarly scanned.
But this will be the first time the system is used on civilians in Iraq,
said spokesperson Francis Piccoli, who acknowledged there has been some
opposition to the measure."

The policy is "no reconstruction for the insurgency". That should change

And how better to "purge" than to blow limbs off of little Iraqi
babies?

And as if telegraphing your intention to bomb Fallujah 3 weeks in
advance (we can't bomb during AWOL's election drive can we?) did not
give the insurgents ample time to leave the city.

To bring about democracy in Iraq you'd have to kill all the
anti-western fundamentalist muslims... which would leave what? Less
than half the population? So what are we supposed to do? Pull out and
let them have at eachother and create another Iran?

The only way that the whole country can be held together in its current
state is by strict military and police control under the command of an
iron handed leader. Hey, that sounds kind of familiar.

He was groomed for it before and held the position for decades.

Exactly!
I hope Saddam kept his resume up to date.
I'm sure Shrub will put in an escape clause for him.
Hey, Dub is looking for a head of Homeland Security. Do ya think?
Hussein would be the perfect head for it.

Except, I understand, the oil fields were damaged by bad production
practices and are probably not worth so much after all. So *that didn't
work out.
Now, Iran, they seem to have some good oil fields still...

Since 'Iraq' is an artificial country, made up of a number of
disparate groups, each wanting mainly to eliminate the others, that's
the only way it will ever be able to be governed.

The other option is partition among more powerful neighbors. If the
coming civil war starts to go badly for the Shi'ites, or even if it
doesn't, Iran may annex Southern Iraq to 'protect' their Shi'ia
brethren. If the Kurds declare independence, Turkey may launch a
'preventive' war to stop them from spreading revolution to Turkey's own
Kurdish population. I don't know who would want the Sunni regions, but
it is possible that they might set up their own version of the
Palestinian West Bank, ruled by various groups of thugs.
