Israel fears Jewish terror

Israel's security minister has recommended the arrest of a prominent
Jewish extremist and warned of many more possible detentions amid a
stream of threats against Ariel Sharon and his ministers by opponents
of the government's plan to remove settlers from the Gaza Strip.
The minister, Gideon Ezra, said he was prepared to invoke emergency
detention laws normally used against Palestinians because of concern
that rising incitement was creating a climate similar to that which led
to the assassination of Yitzhak Rabin a decade ago.
