James Doohan, the Star Trek actor who received the order "Beam me up"
as the Starship Enterprise's engineer, Scotty, has died. The
Canadian-born actor was 85. He died of pneumonia and Alzheimer's
disease at his home in Redmond, Washington, his agent, Steve Stevens,
said. His wife was at his side.
Star Trek, which starred William Shatner as Captain James T Kirk and
Leonard Nimoy as Mr Spock, attracted a cult following. When the series
ended in 1969, Doohan found himself typecast. He went on to star in
seven feature-length Star Trek movies.
