Newsweek
May 22, 2006 issue - Most venture-capital deals are closely scrutinized
in Silicon Valley, but one in particular last year was viewed with
skepticism. High-profile venture-capital firm Accel Partners and its
managing partner, Jim Breyer, invested $12.7 million in what many
observers thought was just another social-networking company,
Facebook.com. Breyer significantly outbid the few other investors who
were interested, and even plugged in more than a million of his own
dollars and took a seat on the start-up's board.
