OT: Just Say No |
My students had to design an anti-drug poster for the school I teach at.
It's to cover a door. Several ideas were suggested. The kids voted, and
the winner was a red door with a three foot tall head shot of our man Rush
saying "Turn a deaf ear to drugs!"
Kids truely hate a hypocrit.

The first duty of a neo-con is to deny reality, not acknowledge
it.
This is how they can call a draft-dodger-turned-deserter, like
Bush, a war hero.
And, heck, let's not even get into the WMD schtick of their's...

Come on. It's hypocrisy that kids tend to be wise to early, not

One doessn't have to look to far to find hypocrisy. When school teachers
single out Rush they are clearly making a political statement. They could
just as easily have singled out Arnold or Slick Willy, but they chose Rush
to be their poster child because they want to reinforce their liberal bias
on school children.

Arnold took some hits from the 13 year olds as well. But it's an anti-drug

our-hands-to-yourself theme next week. Clinton was not popular either.

There is a significant difference between recreatioal drug use, such as that
committed by Arnold or Slick "I didn't exhale" Willie and an acquired
dependancy on pain killers. I seem to remeber Clinton doing his part to
wage the stupid "War on Drugs." No hypocrisy there, right? Yes Rush is a
hypocrite, but he wasn't takng those drugs for kicks. My point is that the
schools ought not to pillory any of these political figures to make their
point against drug use, and that in singling out Rush, tey are politicizing
the classroom.

It's typical of neocons that while they pay lip service to democracy,
they do not seem to understand that this means that folks sometimes
make choices we don't like. Reagan's people illegally funded
terrorists in Nicaragua because he didn't like their choice of
presidents. Mr. Bush didn't seem too happy about Turkey's decision to
not help out in his most recent war, but that's democracy in action.
If we spent less time promoting our villainous ally of the week (and
the Democratic presidents have not been innocent of this) and more
time actually promoting and accepting democracy, I believe we would
have more friends in the long run.

Actually, the relevant trait here belongs to the Paleo-Libs who think that
government exists to brainwash people into thinking like they do, and
creating a populace depndant on the handouts that tey so generously offer.

I am not in full agreement about how significant that difference is,
but such a difference is not relevant to the issue at hand. His
addiction led him to behavior that he openly, loudly derided on the
air, for the purpose of entertaining his audience. Hooray for
lockstep judgmentalism!
I contend that there is a big difference between someone who chooses to

I seem to remeber Clinton doing his part to
wage the stupid "War on Drugs." No hypocrisy there, right?
I warrant that such hypocrisy was based on the political reality that
the majority of the voting public still supports this War on (some)
Drugs for some insane reason. The fact that he continued the fight,
to me, just demonstrated yet once more his lack of political courage
to stick his neck out, lest he lose pollitical power.
So hypocrisy in the execise of Pres power is A-OK. Keep on making
excuses
for him, we never tire of hearing them.
WTF is it with you guys? Offering an explanation is not "making
excuses"! Do you think people do things for no reason? Glen
acknowledged Clinton's hypocrisy in this respect, and called him a
political coward, and you accuse him of making excuses! Did you read
this, or did your dittohead autopilot just see [liberal + explanation
= excuses] for a demonized liberal politician?
Look, frog, he admitted that Clinton was a hypocrite, but didn't explain why
Rush should be the drug poster-boy rather than another who earned the title.

So, choosing a glass of wine, a legal drug, with dinner, and choosing
a ciggy, a legal drug, after sex, are different from choosing to take
a substance controlled by a physician to alleviate pain is different
in what way?

As so many have said, I wrote no such thing. Not even close. I
called him a political coward. No doubt his actual views on drugs
are/were a tad mroe forgiving than his predecessor's (you know, George
I, who made a huge cause of the War On (some) Drugs). He likely saw
how popular to the m(asses) this "war" was and kept his views to
himself. He was hypocritical, all right, no question. But he was
half the blowhard about drug use that Rush has been, and is therefore
less fat (pardon the pun) a target.
Keep on making excuses for him, we never tire of hearing them.
I'm waiting for person one to actually make an excuse for him. I
HATED his drug policy as much as I did Bush, Sr.'s and Bush, Jr.'s. I
laughed along with everyone at his line about not inhaling... though
part of me believes him. What else would one who wants to get along
with the "cool" crowd do, if he doesn't want to actually get high?
He's just craven enoug to make such a half-step to stay with the right
crowd. I know *I* was tempted to fake it when my friends were passing
around a joint at a concert. But instead, I just passed. A similar
thing happened when asked about his affair. It was easier then to lie
(leading him to be caught) than to just say "I will not answer that."

I sure did, uh, 'dog.' For one, the Rush story is news to most of the
public. Clinton is old, old hat, except for those who still have
conniption fits, their guy being in the White House nonetheless. Bet
you and your buddies still laugh at those tired, stale
semen-stained-dress jokes, don't you? Doesn't it just kill you that
eight years of a president you just love to hate are all you get,
especially since it's *your* bumbling chimp in the hot seat now.
For another, Rush is a bigger and badder blowhard who hurls out slabs
of judgement in loud, certain, simple, and unwavering tones like
bloody meat for his rabid, whooping dog pound. As a mainstream (and
not particularly liberal) politician, Clinton could not stray far from
a moderate tone. I dare you to find aa single quote about drug users
from Clinton that's half as judgmental as Rush's.
Considering only *these* differences, who makes for a better target?

The latter usage was initially a medical necessity. The others are purely
voluntary.

Why should school children be encouraged to choose "targets" at all? My
point has been that the whole idea is inappropriate for them. I should
think that teaching kids how to conduct civil discourse would be a lot more
productive than playig pin the tail on the druggie.

And to think that some still pretend that our schools aren't liberally
biased.
So calling Limbaugh a drug addict renders one a liberal?
Perhaps he means that hating hypocrits is a liberal trait.
Or training kids in democracy, by letting them vote on issues when possible.
