Keeping U.S. Jobs at Home

By Robert J. Samuelson, Page A21
John Kerry recently made an interesting proposal that, if nothing
else, illustrates the wide gap between political rhetoric and economic
reality. Given the obsession with jobs and overseas "outsourcing,"
Kerry suggests that government policy should encourage U.S. companies
to invest here, not abroad. His idea is to lower corporate taxes
earned in the United States and raise them on profits earned abroad --
so companies will stay home. This sounds doable, and that's why it's a
good campaign pitch. But it probably wouldn't work as Kerry intends,
and that's where economic reality intrudes.

Umm... point of information. Most corporations in the United States -- at least, corporations large enough to move
overseas in the first place -- DO NOT pay taxes and haven't for many years.

In addition, Kerry's moronic shell game will result in worsening our
international trade by inflating the cost of American products in overseas
markets. BTW, is he still hawking this sham? Does he still pretend that it
will deliver 10 jillion jobs overnight? All I've heard from him lately is
more lies about his medals or ribbons or some other dude's medals or some
crap like that.
