Kerry is back in the race, says latest poll

Analysis of swing states gives challenger small lead

Forecasts of John Kerry's political demise may have been exaggerated
in recent days, and he could still be clinging to a narrow lead in the
US presidential race, according to a poll published yesterday.
The poll, by Zogby International, reflected the state of play in 20
swing states, and found that the surge in George Bush's support there
after last week's Republican convention, was less pronounced than the
double-digits suggested in two weekend polls.

How big was the bounce?

From The Economist print edition
George Bush is probably pulling ahead in the presidential horse-race,
though not for the reasons you might think
SINCE John Kerry clinched the Democratic nomination this spring, the
presidential race has pretty much been a tie. This week, plenty of
Republicans were *****-a-hoop and many Democrats crestfallen. Both
thought that George Bush had broken away. Looking at the polling
numbers as the race rounds into its final lap, they may be right.
