Man Sells Device That Blocks Fox News
By EMILY FREDRIX
It's not that Sam Kimery objects to the views expressed on Fox
News.
The creator of the "Fox Blocker" contends the channel is not news
at all.
Kimery figures he's sold about 100 of the little silver bits of
metal that screw into the back of most televisions, allowing
people to filter Fox News from their sets, since its August debut.
The Tulsa, Okla., resident also has received thousands of e-mails,
both angry and complimentary _ as well as a few death threats.
"Apparently the making of terroristic threats against those who
don't share your views is a high art form among a certain core
audience," said Kimery, 45.
Formerly a registered Republican, even a precinct captain, Kimery
became an independent in the 1990s when he said the state party
stopped taking input from its everyday members.
Kimery now contends Fox News' top-level management dictates a
conservative journalistic bias, that inaccuracies are never
retracted, and what winds up on the air is more opinion than news.
"I might as well be reading tabloids out of the grocery store," he
says.
"Anything to get a rise out of the viewer and to reinforce certain
retrograde notions."
A Fox spokeswoman at the station's New York headquarters said the
channel's ratings speak for themselves.
For the first three months of this year, Fox has been averaging
1.62 million viewers in prime-time, compared with CNN's 805,000,
according to Nielsen Media Research.
Kimery's motives go deeper than preventing people from watching
the channel, which he acknowledges can be done without the
Blocker.
But he likens his device to burning a draft card, a tangible
example of disagreement.
And he's taking this message to the network's advertisers.
After buying the $8.95 device online, would-be blockers are shown
a letter that they can send to advertisers via the Fox Blocker
site.
"The point is not to block the channel or block free speech but to
raise awareness," said Kimery, who works in the tech industry.
Kimery doesn't use the device himself; his remote is programmed to
only a half-dozen channels.
Plus he occasionally feels the need to tune into Fox News for
something "especially heinous."
Business could pick up since the blocker was alluded to in a
recent episode of the ABC drama "Boston Legal."
The show's original script mentioned Fox News, but ABC had the
references removed.

Bet these people who are too stupid to select other news channels (though
with Fox News being the best I don't know why anyone would want to) are the
same people who vote for your Democratic party or our Lib Dems. God help us
all if they reproduce at a greater than the rest of us.

from cognitive dissonance.

CBS is nothing but partisan Democratic propaganda.
PBS "News Hour" is probably the best balanced of all the major network
news, and even they get mighty selective about saying anything good
about Republican issues.

If there were a
liberal media outlet on television, it'd make the conservative's heads
explode from cognitive dissonance.

Naw, we've got natural resistance from all the years of ABCNBCCBS.

Trust me. If you think CNN is "left wing", you don't know what "left

Funny how libruls hate so much to be identified as such.

Frankly, FOX News mostly bores me to tears.

Goodness knows, if, just by chance, they happen to hear any news
that hasn't been filtered by the liberal media their heads might
explode from cognitive dissonance.

Which of course, does not exist on television.

CBS is nothing but partisan Democratic propaganda.

If you think CBS is "partisan Democratic propaganda", then you
obviously do not know what "partisan Democratic propaganda" is.

I know what got Dan Rather to resign in disgrace, and it wasn't being
"fair and balanced".

Sorry, but Dan Rather was disgraced not because of the story he did,
but because he became the scapegoat of years of perceived "liberal
media bias". It culminated in a story that is still true but
disgraced the long career of a seasoned reporter. I do hope you guys
are satisifed for destroying this man because he was doing his JOB.

He destroyed himself. Knowingly or not, he ran with a story based on
pure disinformation from *obviously* forged documents.

So, he was destroyed by doing what Bush has done for the past 4 years:
Operated on "bad information".

Thanks for admitting that his JOB was to disseminate Democratic
disinformation and propaganda.

Sorry, but the story was not disinformation. Even if the memos
themselves were forgeries, the _information_ they contained was
accurate. Has there been ANYONE to stand up and admit they were with
Bush throughout his ANG tour?
Gosh, even the SWIFT BOAT VETERANS FOR TRUTH admitted they were with
John Kerry in Vietname. Where are the "Air National Guardsmen for Truth"?

PBS "News Hour" is probably the best balanced of all the major
network news, and even they get mighty selective about saying
anything good about Republican issues.

I don't watch PBS's news hour so I can't comment.

If there were a
liberal media outlet on television, it'd make the conservative's
heads explode from cognitive dissonance.

Naw, we've got natural resistance from all the years of ABCNBCCBS.

Trust me. You don't.

Trust me. If you think CNN is "left wing", you don't know what
"left wing" actually is!

Funny how libruls hate so much to be identified as such.

Because it's incorrect. If I said "Funny how conservatives hate to
be identified as money-grubbing, big-corporation, Christofascists
hate to be identified as such", you'd say that that'd be incorrect.
This is what you're doing to us. You are building a strawman and
then attacking that strawman. Liberals are NOT what you think they
are.

Talk about strawmen, what do you think I think you are?

Then, what are you saying by "Funny how libruls hate so much to be
identified as such"? Please let me know is clear, concise terms so
that I can apologize if you think differently than I think you do.

You first.

No. You made the claim "Funny how libruls..." Please explain yourself.

(Of course, when you live on the north pole, everything looks south
to you, and when you live with Fox News, everything looks left to
you.)

Frankly, FOX News mostly bores me to tears.

Personally, I find the Fox Blocker hilarious. This guy's using the
free market to make a buck! You righties should be proud!

Hey, I'm all for it. I'd hate to see all those libruls with their
brains running out their ears.

I watch Fox News all the time. My brains are not running out of my
ears.

You sure about that?

Yes.

I do get to yell at the TV, though, which is fun. :-) If you
want to hear _REAL_ liberal media, turn on Air America. Go on, I
dare you. ;-)

I can get all I can stand of that right here on alt.atheism.

What? You don't want more? Afraid YOUR brains are going to run out
your ears?

No, it gets old after a while. Same reason I don't hang out at my
mother's church.

The old "CBSNBCABCCNN Liberal Media Bias" claim gets old after a while, too.

Bush at least has corrected his course when it became obvious that he

they didn't have the stockpiles of WMD that we expected to find.

Not a bit of it. The content was just as bogus as the type font.

Yes, as a matter of fact, they have. In considerable detail, in the
"right-wing" press where you lefties just handwave it away.

Gosh, even the SWIFT BOAT VETERANS FOR TRUTH admitted they were with
John Kerry in Vietname. Where are the "Air National Guardsmen for

Buried by the same media that attacked the Swifties with such fury when
they exposed Kerry's ***** claims about Vietnam and his subsequent
actions in the anti-war movement.

No. You made the claim "Funny how libruls..." Please explain

You reflexively oppose anything Republican, whether it makes sense or
not. You spout Democratic talking points, even when a basic fact-check
in published reports shows that it's disinformation. It's like you can't
think for yourself or remember anything from six months ago, much less
all the way back to the public debate before the Iraq invasion.
And spare me the reflexive "your mama too".
Even when the Dems have held substantially similar positions in the
past, anything that Reps propose is automatically evil.
Does "Anybody But Bush" sound familiar to you, maybe?

Man Sells Device That Blocks Fox News

It's not that Sam Kimery objects to the views expressed on Fox
News.

The creator of the "Fox Blocker" contends the channel is not news
at all.

Kimery figures he's sold about 100 of the little silver bits of
metal that screw into the back of most televisions, allowing
people to filter Fox News from their sets, since its August debut.

Bet these people who are too stupid to select other news channels

Indeed: most intelligent people do. Apparently point of the "FOX
Buster" is to buy one and then tell KFOX one has done so, and also
write to the top ten KFOX advertisers telling them one has done
so.
The problem with blocking out worthless channels is, one ends up
with no channels to watch. (I put a .45 bullet through my TV six
or seven years ago, and would do it again at the least or no
provocation). Even the allegedly "science" channels have gone to
crap--- pandering and catering to "NewAge" (rhymes with "Sewage")
*****.

Fox Blocker: http://www.foxblocker.com

The reason most people watch Fox news has nothing to do with politics. It's
becuase the other news channels show more useless crap like celebrity junk
to try to get people to buy more corporate owned entertainment. Also the
other channels have no agenda and hence no motivation to show a lot of news.
because Fox has an agenda they show more news instead of feel-good
entertainment just geared to sell products and get your money. The product
Fox sells is conservatism to get money for the fascists, but at least that
makes for more coverage of actual news.
