The Guardian
Several independent newspapers and radio stations in the central Asian
republic of Kyrgyzstan have been shut down in an apparent state-backed
crackdown as tensions rise before tomorrow's parliamentary elections.
Many opposition politicians have been barred from standing, and youth
and opposition activists say they plan demonstrations to bring about a
so-called "tulip revolution".
