OT: Law and Order Criminal Intent |
More specifically, Vincent D'Onofrio. I don't actually sit down and
watch this show but it is frequently on in the background where I live.
This guy drives me insane. He is like William Shatner doing a parody
of himself. I find myself hoping the sociopathic killer in the given
episode gets away with it because D'Onofrio's character is such an
annoying *****. Anybody else have this reaction? Or do I simply not
recognize brilliant acting when I see it?

I don't think the acting is bad, but the idea that the guy is an expert on
every field of endeavor that ever comes up is a bit annoying. Would he
really be a cop?

The character always struck me as borderline obsessive-compulsive. But
that said, the character that really annoys me is Horatio (David
Caruso) in CSI Miami.

My god, I never thought of it that way. Imagine, a quirky genius,
bordering on autistic savant, that solves crimes. Who'd have ever
thought such a thing up...

The other thing I like about Law and Order: Criminal Intent is that Goren
and Eames are not getting it on.

The later, I suspect. I was annoyed by him for some time (my better
half watches). Then I looked back over his body of other work (see
_Full Metal Jacket_ or his _Homicide_ episode) and realized what he
was putting in to the character. He is pretty amazing. Don't confuse
the writing with the acting.

His style of mannered, ridiculous performance was perfect for a Kubrick

I dunno, I think you're being extremely generous.

But his being annoying is how he gets the sociopathic killers to crack.
He's just doing his job as a detective.
