When I was a pd in the late sixties I learned that you could just hang
about property at the police department asking questions about certain
cases, seeking information unknown to the public or press, and during
the course of the "casual" conversation having received the
information you sought, turn to leave and accidently drop a twenty on
the floor.

Took me a moment to come up with private detective.

The cop in charge would surprisingly turn to find the twenty after you
left and pocket it.
It wasn't a bribe of course because the cop just saw it lying there
and thought it was something that he had dropped himself.
Cheap but effective.

Very much so. And very simple.

And if you are an alderman in a small town or a large city and a part
of your job is to section off the land into commercial and residential
properties, commercial being the most valuable of course, you might
just buy up certain residential plots with innocent intent without
knowing what the developers might "reasonably" request later.
These are things I experienced and know about first hand.
I've known cops who ran stables of prostitutes and cops who sold drugs
or protected those who did.
I've known paramedics who spent their shifts stoned out of their minds
with other people's lives in their hands.

I've worked with politicians enough to understand that its all a
damned game with them

It was simple curiosity.

I meant there's really no point in telling anybody expecting anything
to be done.

I tried that a number of times.
Its frustrating as hell.

The sad fact is that in sometimes people died because of things that
should not have been happening.
Folks just go about their day to day business obeying the rules and
think they have a handle on how it all works.
In many cases they don't.

There are nuts on both sides but I am of the opinion that
presently the nuts that are running the country into the ground are
Republicans.

I think both parties are.
But the nuts on the other side will at some point regain the most
power and get another chance to do their particular brand of damage

I think we in America should form a new party and pass a law that says
all politicians caught lying will be shot.

That's the problem with 2 party system. But that is what we have and
you have to make the best of it.

Which is why as much I as love to see the current GOP be put away
(preferable in a medium security prison), it is important that they be
competitive in the future just to keep each other honest.

Sure, and if I had been around in 1968 I would have protested against
LBJ. The problem is that GOP opposition that year came in the fom of
more bombs, whereas today the Dem opposition is in the form of getting

Actually there were Democrats in the streets protesting the Vietnam

And that's a thing that I find to be odd.
The leadership knew what their party members wanted and for too long
denied them.
Hell, they knew what most of America wanted.

But I'm usually thinking of the leadership and political activists
when I talk party.
I don't think the rank and file has that much trust in government
which ever party they belong to.

Obviously I don't agree 100% with this claim, but given the choice between the $500
billion bridge and a $500 useless war I'll take the bridge any day.
