[OT] Letter to the Editor, Las Vegas City Life |

I like reading Las Vegas CityLife. It keeps me up-to-date on the
city I once lived in and still care about. I attended Southern
Nevada Vocational Technical Center, where I learned how to:
navigate an aircraft with a plastic computer and a pencil; write a
sonnet; bake a soufflé; get beat up by bullies and thugs; and
jimmy the lock on the candy concession room door. The benefits of
this well-rounded education still serve me well, some 25 years
later. Good education is one of the chief requirements for a
democratic republic (such as the U.S.A. was supposed to be) to
function properly.
Therefore I am rather irate at theocratic morons who do not know
the difference between evolution (a fact) and evolutionary theory
(which defines and describes the fact of evolution). I speak of
John Edward Mahalo D'Aura's letter ["Evolution does NOT explain
many things"] in the Dec. 9 issue. Worse, such people refuse to
accept the fact, after it is explained to them, that evolution and
evolutionary theory are two totally different things.
Thank Goddess for Joshua Ellis' columns on that subject. Fat lot
of good it did helping the rightards (right-wing retards)
understand -- but I hope that the columns cleared up some people's
confusion.
I put it this way: a recipe for how to make an apple pie (the
theory) is completely different than the apple pie (the fact). One
cannot "teach apple pie" any more than one can "teach evolution":
One can teach how an apple pie is made, and one can teach how
evolution occurred and occurs.
Evolution is a fact; evolutionary theory is not. Why is this so
hard for some people (i.e., Creationists) to understand?
This is the 21st century, not the 13th. The Enlightenment has
happened already. You rightards need to get over it!

"Modern U.S. Supreme Courts have raped the Constitution and raped the
Christian faith and raped the churches by misinterpreting what the
founders had in mind in the First Amendment of the Constitution... [W]e
must fight against those radical minorities who are trying to remove God
from our textbooks, Christ from our nation. We must never allow our
children to forget that this is a Christian nation. We must take back
what is rightfully ours." -- Jerry Falwell, March 1993 sermon
