OT: London bombs - bastards - what's the betting religion is involved. |
Seems like the act of typical cowardly religious bigots who disapprove of the
fact that we don't prostrate ourselves at the feet of their magic sky pixie. I
can't believe that even the anti-globalisation idiots who have been rioting at
the G8 summit would be quite so cowardly.
With Britain leading the way to end poverty in the third world, one of the major
beefs of the terrorist organisations, it seems doubly unfair that the bastards
should attack London, and just after the Olympics announcement as well.
It's a fair bet that someone's religion has a lot to do with it. ***** religion.

Christians are automatically guilty of some awful crime or other
because they base their religion on a book which condones violence? Or

You're right, of course. I was just projecting. To me personally, my
atheism is a result of my desire to hunt down the truth, investigate
everything that I believe in, and only hold opinions that observable
facts seem to support. That affects every aspect of my life. It would
be daft of me to assume that others have followed the same path. I was
just bloody angry, to be honest, and suspect it clouded my judgement.
I may disagree with people's opinions, but this one was a real, bona
fide fuckwit racist moron. That sort of thing pisses me off,
particularly when they're using an event like that to justify their

Yes they have. They have killed tens of thousands of civilians. Go and
have a look at some estimates of the 'collateral damage' caused by the
invasion forces bombing civilian areas. How many do you think they've
killed, and what's your source?

The US Army has targeted civilian areas in the knowledge that many
civilians would be killed. The terrorists target civilian areas
knowing the same thing. Both sides are aiming to kill the enemy, but
both kill civilians in the process. Thus far, the allied forces have
killed significantly *more* civilians than the insurgents, but the
latter are doing their best to catch up.
As for the US not targetting civilians directly, they may not have
done so in this war but have you not heard of No Gun Ri? They accept
'collateral damage' as a justifiable and even essential part of any
way. It is impossible to avoid killing civilians in a war like that,
but they have a responsibility to keep the numbers as low as possible.

started this war on Iraq. Iraq was not the aggressor. If you invade a
country, there are consequences. Your opinion would have made sense if

It is not comparable to WWII because it is not a war. You are talking
as though it is. You can not wage war against an enemy you can not
see, which exists in every country. The only approach to this is to
rely on the security services to provide information of these attacks
before they happen and arrest the people involved, and track down the
people who manage to get through the net and launch the attacks.
Unfortunately that means clamping down on civil liberties, so people
have to decide how much they are prepared to sacrifice in order to
prevent future attacks.
If you drop a bomb, you might kill 5 would-be terrorists and 100
civilians. The death of 100 civilians will encourage more would-be
terrorists to sign up for the extremist cause. You can not end
terrorism by using terror.
Period.

Yes they have. They have killed tens of thousands of civilians. Go and
have a look at some estimates of the 'collateral damage' caused by the
invasion forces bombing civilian areas. How many do you think they've
killed, and what's your source?
No sir, you know better than that. You are the one that claimed that there
were tens of thousands of casualties. YOU provide the evidence. From
sources, by the way, that I would trust. That means, of course, that Al
Jazeera is out.
Most of the innocent civilian casualties are the result of TERRORIST
activity, bombings, and what have you. Not to mention the thousands of
deaths attibutable to Saddam Hussein during his reign. Indeed, he killed
considerably more people than we have...and WE do not target civilians.
The US Army has targeted civilian areas in the knowledge that many
civilians would be killed.
The terrorists target civilian areas
knowing the same thing.
The US Army warns people and gives them the chance to leave. The terrorists
do not warn anybody and wait for rush hour. I would call that a slight
difference, myself.
Both sides are aiming to kill the enemy, but
both kill civilians in the process. Thus far, the allied forces have
killed significantly *more* civilians than the insurgents, but the
latter are doing their best to catch up.
As for the US not targetting civilians directly, they may not have
done so in this war

Yes. That incident was tragic, and joins a few other wartime incidents in
which innocent people were killed unnecessarily and tragically. I'm not
telling you that such things do not happen...but please note, when they do,
they are NOT the result of orders from 'on high' or compliance with standard
military operating procedure. They are aberations, deeply regretted and all
efforts are made to see that they are not repeated.
They accept
'collateral damage' as a justifiable and even essential part of any
way. It is impossible to avoid killing civilians in a war like that,
but they have a responsibility to keep the numbers as low as possible.
Thus the warnings to leave the area? Warnings that terrorists not only do
NOT give, but which would negate their whole purpose?
If
you are going to rant, do try to get your facts straight first.
My facts are straight, you just don't want to accept them. If you're
going to support a war you really should take more of an interest in
the consequences. Estimates for civilian casualties vary a lot, but
are probably between 20,000 and 100,000.

That was a war. If the bombings in WWII were terrorism then so are the
US bombings in Iraq.
The continued and constant attacks by the IRA.
The IRA tended to target property and not people, as I have already
said. In Britain, they have never killed as many people as this one
incident. Their 'continued attacks' take place outside Britain
(Northern Ireland is not a part of Great Britain).

Your opinion. The majority of Londoners I have spoken to apparently
disagree with you, but I doubt you have any more respect for their
opinions than you have for mine. Everyone knew that bombing Iraq would
make world terrorism worse, they did it anyway. That makes them
partially responsible.
As to your opinion of what caused it, I have another two words for you
that
you might want to remember: Appeasement, and Chamberlain.
Remember that Chamberlain tried appeasement. It didn't work then, either.
You CANNOT let terrorists have anything, not the slightest thing, they
demand at the threat of terrorist acts. I don't care how reasonable the
demands themselves may look, the price is too high.
You are missing the fact that it was the US/UK and other allies who
started this war on Iraq. Iraq was not the aggressor.
The HELL they weren't!! This is actually a continuation of the GULF war, in
which Saddam was most definately the aggressor! We wouldn't be doing any of
this now if he had been complying with UN resolutions and NOT merrily
bribing UN security council members to look the other way as he raped and
murdered his own people...oh, AND starved them.
If you invade a
country, there are consequences.

they had not invaded a country which had not attacked first. As it is,
you are ignoring the one act which precipitated the increase in
European terrorism.

Only when everybody realises that terrorist actions shut off all chance of
achieving whatever it is they are after when they commit these acts will
terrorism cease. That means we cannot, we must not, we DARE not, withdraw
or
appease or even listen to anyone who so much as threatens terrorist
actions,
and if they actually perform terrorist acts in order to get what they
want,
there is only one possible response.
We kill them. We jail them. We see to it that they lose everything. We do
not allow them to win, we do not allow them the slightest perception of a
win, we do not allow them any excuse at all to think that they have
achieved
an atom of their goals as a result of the violence.
It is not comparable to WWII because it is not a war. You are talking
as though it is.
That's because it is. You are falling into the trap many military people do,
amof; constantly training to fight the LAST war. IT is a war. It's not a war
LIKE WWII, but it is, nevertheless, a war.
You can not wage war against an enemy you can not
see, which exists in every country.
You better hope we not only can, but that we can win it.
The only approach to this is to
rely on the security services to provide information of these attacks
before they happen and arrest the people involved, and track down the
people who manage to get through the net and launch the attacks.
Unfortunately that means clamping down on civil liberties, so people
have to decide how much they are prepared to sacrifice in order to
prevent future attacks.
That's part of fighting this particular war, yes.
If you drop a bomb, you might kill 5 would-be terrorists and 100
civilians. The death of 100 civilians will encourage more would-be
terrorists to sign up for the extremist cause. You can not end
terrorism by using terror.
Period.
How about 'we do not start some stupid invasion of a Muslim state
which can not be justified in terms of reducing world terrorism'? What
the hell did you think was going to happen - did you think that Muslim
extremists were going to sit back and let us get away with it? Iraq
did not attack us. We attacked them, and we are paying the price.
Iraq attacked her neighbors. Then Saddam sat back and milked his defeat for
all it was worth...and thanks to the corruption of the French, Germans,
Russians and others, it was worth a great deal.
40 people are already
dead and around 350 injured. The death toll is expected to rise. If
Blair had not stupidly gone along with Bush and his lies, this attack
would not have happened.

No, I can read and I have common sense. Have a look at the statement
by the organization claiming responsibility for this. This was related
to the invasion of Iraq, and would not have happened if the UK had not
become involved. Do you really think they selected a country at
random?
Oh, no. They selected England deliberately. They thought that England was a
the same point that Spain was when THEIR railway was targeted. I believe
that they will be disabused of that notion. The English don't take
intimidation well.
