OT: Male Contraception |
Scientists in India have developed a simple, effective male contraceptive.
Some stuff is injected into the vas deferens, which forms a partial barrier
while chemically neutralizing any sperm that do get through. It's
effective (according to tests in India), safe (no mucking about with
hormones), long-lasting (up to 10 years or more) and reversible (simply
inject a solution to wash away the plug).

Cool stuff. The problem is, the pharmaceutical companies aren't interested.
They prefer the hormonal pills and injections. More scope for huge profits
on repeat sales, see.

Probably won't work. When sperm has no way of leaving the vas deferens,
they have to be reabsorbed. The testis ultimately stop producing sperm
as a result. This is the major reason that vasectomies aren't
reversible. Reconnecting the tubes is just plumbing, but it doesn't
guarantee that there are still sperm to travel through them.

Not me. My vasectomy was the best thing I ever did.

Yes, but that means you're not one of the men who want it reversed. If
you *did* want it reversed, I'll bet that article would make you want to
kick yourself. But, you're happy with it and therefore there's nothing
for you to worry about :)

Not me. My vasectomy was the best thing I ever did.
My vasectomy spontaneously reversed itself 2 years after the procedure.
Ironically, the child that resulted is a very endearing young man.
Now that we have him, I wouldn't want to be without him.
