The question, in its many variations a staple of Manhattan dinner
parties, is invariably posed with bitter bewilderment: ''How could
anyone with a shred of decency call himself a conservative?'' Alas, it
is a question the book business has done a singularly poor job of
answering. While publishers have fattened their bottom lines offering
up red meat to true believers, the steady stream of invective from both
left (''Liars!'') and right (''Traitors!'') has served only to widen
the nation's yawning ideological divide.

I get it, "normal" people have multiple wives and go to Mromon

And Manhattan dinner party goers think everybody else DOES have 'multiple
wives' and go to "Mromon revivals".
Even though the main sect of Mormonism, the Church of Jesus Christ of
Latter-day Saints, hasn't practiced polygamy for over a century and hasn't
held a 'revival', ever.
See? major disconnect between what actually is, and what the elitist,
snobbish, 'we know what's best for the little people' Manhattan dinner party
crowd thinks 'is'.

Question; who began the stereotyping?
Answer; you did. It was YOUR stereotyping of the Manhattan dinner party goer
as the only decent people in the nation....and then continued it with lies
about the Mormons. Not 'stereotyping', absolute inaccuracies.
Now, are you going to tell me that people who live (and dine) in Manhattan
aren't generally richer than most? You DO know what the rent is in
Manhattan, yes? What the average dinner price is? Get a grip.

I hate to tell you this, but what happened in Nauvoo was under the watch of

You know, you could look through this thread for ten years and not see those
words, or that thought, from me. My original objection was that you equated
a bunch of elitists as THE sine qua non of arbiters in re what is
compassionate or not. As if a bunch of Manhattan dinner party goers were the
only people who counted.
And considering the public stance of the Democratic party, that it is for
'the little guy', I find that very telling.
It's ***** then, it's ***** now.
Of course. But it's your *****, since that's not what I said.
Now, are you going to tell me that people who live (and dine) in
Manhattan
aren't generally richer than most? You DO know what the rent is in
Manhattan, yes? What the average dinner price is? Get a grip.
So? Just because they are more successful than you are make them less
reality-based than you? Does that make you more delusional than
people who are homeless?
And you think they are 'more successful than me', why, exactly? Is the
only
measure of success an invitation to a Manhattan dinner party?
That they make more money than you, by your own admission.
The vast majority of Americans make more money than me. So what? I'm in
school, for pete's sake. However, there was a time in my life when I made a
great deal of money. I still wouldn't have been invited to a Manhattan
dinner party because A: I am not a Democrat and B: I not only know who Paul
Klee is, I know what he was trying to do. Now that last is important because
Manhattan dinner party goers would have to know who Klee was, but actually
understanding the principles behind his paintings is going too far, a little
like Gatsby actually cutting the pages of the books in his library.
5 Percent
of ALL American will accept financial successs before they accept your
dirty little cult.
No matter how I rearrange the above words, they still don't make sense.
You keep digging yourself in deeper...
The hole you is your own. The last time I checked success in
capitalism is one of the fundamental tenents in GOP theology.
Capitalism is. I'm not talking about capitalism. I'm talking about elitism;
the sort of assininity spouted by the very wealthiest Democrats who were
born into money, may or may not continue making money, but who spend their
lives in pursuit of power, since they already have the money. THESE are the
'Manhattan dinner party goers' you speak of.
