OT: Napoleon Dynamite |
I, in one of my very unusual bouts of irrationality, watched this
steaming pile of ***** last night.
Correct me if I am wrong here, but are comedies not supposed
to make you laugh? Am I alone in my opinion of this supposedly
"fucking awesome" movie? *****, my peers are fucking idiots.

No, your "peers" have a sense of fucking humor. That movie was just so
bizarre it had to be funny. Plus, it was made by mormons...

You have to give Carrey credit for being a good actor, though. "The
Truman Show" is a wonderful film, one I avoided for years because I so
disliked Carrey. I still detest his so-called comedy roles, but I'd
consider seeing a serious or semi-serious film with him in it. But the
other two have no redeeming talent I've seen.

No. I understand it's supposed to be a comedy, and I won't make any
special effort to watch a Hollywood movie that's supposed to be funny;
they're just not even amusing. That's the sort of film I'd only see by
accident or if a friend showed it to me.
Now, Rustler's Rhapsody and Ruthless People are funny films.

I'd count them both as entertaining, but not funny, which to me means
laugh out loud. But it's interesting you mention these since just this
weekend at a party we got to making fun of people who try to make
sweeping rhetorical statements and fail, and one example I used was
Zorro's "help the helpless, defend the defenseless and defeat the, uh,
feetless" speech.
Rustler's Rhapsody makes me laugh every time I watch it. The two
colonels qubbling, the "take care of her" problem, and the classic
"You're not a good guy at all!" "Of course not! I'm a lawyer!" always
tickle me, and Ruthless People is just insane from beginning to end.
The odd thing with RP is that the funniest line in it had no words at
all. It's when the mistress is trying to figure out why the police
chief won't press charges against Danny Devito, and she says, "Either
he's a total idiot, and total idiots are rare...", then takes a small
look at Bill Pullman, the Miami Vice wannabe by her side.

burning at the stake, by proclaiming in alt.atheism:

"fucking awesome" movie? *****, my peers are fucking idiots.
Napoleon Dynamite is the sweeeeetest movie yet this century. What,
you don't like nerds? You don't have a sweet bike to take over some
jumps? You haven't chatted for hours on the net with a sweet babe
named La Fawnduh? Dang, dude, this is the Rocky of the Opressed. Get
stoned and watch it again. And again. And again....
