OT: Nasa probe impacts Comet Tempel 1 |
US space agency (Nasa) scientists were jubilant on Monday as they sent
a probe crashing into the heart of a comet.
The washing machine-sized 372kg "impactor" smashed into Comet Tempel 1
right on cue just after 0550 GMT, to throw up a huge plume of icy
debris.
The 37,000km/h collision was expected to create a large crater in the
comet.
The probe's mother ship, the Deep Impact spacecraft, watched from a
safe distance, sending images back to Earth.
Scientists hope the project will give them new insights into the Solar
System's composition and the chemical building blocks of life.

Heh. Come to think of it, "War of the Worlds" wasn't an invasion - it
was a scientific experiment; simply vaporising samples and analysing
the results! Nothing personal!

Yesterday's paper had a story about a Russian who's suing NASA because
of this experiment. She said it will upset the balance of the cosmos so
it should be done.

Kooks sue NASA all the time. A ex-lover of Virgil Fox tried to sue NASA
for the Shuttle disaster claiming emotional scarring or something like
that. He lost. The Russian will too.

I was wondering whether the Kooks would say anything about this one.
I was thinking to myself yesterday about how strange it was I hadnt
heard anything.
I can relax now knowing everything is "normal".
(i.e. insane)

Normal? HA!
Just wait until you see how far off that event threw your horoscope.

There was an article in the current issue of Skeptical Inquirer about him.
He is an astrologer, and believes the impact will upset the balance of
the cosmos.

Which means there are at least two people nutty enough to do this,
since the one I read about was a woman. She felt her lawsuit would be
ignored because NASA considers Russia to be a third world country. That
she's a lunatic obviously has nothing to do with it...
