Jan. 28 - When MIT professor Neil Gershenfeld's kids want a new toy,
they don't go to the mall. They go to MIT, says Gershenfeld, who
briefed the world's movers and shakers today at Davos on his Pre Fab
labs at his Massachusetts campus. The labs allow average people to
build their own toys, furniture, consumer electronics devices and
practically anything else you can imagine, using computer design
programs and high tech tools like laser cutters and milling machines.
"Forget about digital communication," says Gershenfeld. "The next
big thing is digital fabrication."
