OT: New Anti-Terrorism Regs in the UK. |
Details at:
http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/uk_politics/4748717.stm
The one that amused me most is:
"New grounds for deporting and excluding people from the UK -
including fostering hatred or, advocating and justifying violence to
further beliefs. The powers will cover statements already on record.
Consultation on the plans will finish this month"
I can't wait for Peter Tatchell to try a citizen's arrest on George II
when he's next over here.

There's a rather more serious side to this, though: given how sane people's
attempts to point out the obvious 'Iraq invasion / London bombings'
connection are continually shouted down by government apologists, we can see
how these new laws are aimed at ultimately silencing any comment that isn't
of the "we're good; they're bad; we're right; they're wrong and mad and
evil" variety. In short, cheer-leading in support of state-sponsored
violence and military terrorism will be 'okay' -- whereas *criticising it*
or *justifying someone's armed or violent resistance to it* will be a crime.
If you think nothing this mad could happen here, ponder what I heard on
Radio 4 yesterday: some fool being interviewed wanted to oppose the
implications of someone's recent submission that the London attacks are
'explicable' in terms of the anger provoked by UK attacks against Muslim
countries. His response: well, they may be 'explicable' in terms of this
anger, but the anger 'isn't an explanation'...
