OT: New planetoid found in our solar system |
Distant object found orbiting Sun
By Dr David Whitehouse
Science editor, BBC News website
Astronomers have found a large object in the Solar System's outer
reaches. It is being hailed as "a great discovery".
Details of the object are still sketchy. It never comes closer to the
Sun than Neptune and spends most of its time much further out than
Pluto.
It is one of the largest objects ever found in the outer Solar System
and is almost certainly made of ice and rock.
It is at least 1,500km (930 miles) across and may be larger than Pluto,
which is 2,274km (1,400 miles) across.
The uncertainty in estimates of its size is due to errors in its
reflectivity.
It might be a large, dim object, or a smaller, brighter object. Whatever
it is, astronomers consider it a major discovery.

"It is necessary to the happiness of man that he be
mentally faithful to himself. Infidelity does not
consist in believing, or in disbelieving; it consists
in professing to believe what one does not believe. It
is impossible to calculate the moral mischief, if I may
so express it, that mental lying has produced in society.
When man has so far corrupted and prostituted the
chastity of his mind, as to subscribe his professional
belief to things he does not believe, he has prepared
himself for the commission of every other crime."

Or something. I can never tell these days.

Cut out 50% of 16% that are nonreligious, and divide the rest by 3,

That falls in line with other "no longer remembered" links I've

We are a minority, but so are you. I count 13 religions inside

One small problem in your numbers, turkey.
Christians account for and **DO** make up 33% of the current world population -
2 billion strong. And adding in the Muslims who do worship the same God
almighty, make up 53% of the current world population.
Now, Mormons may not *technically* be Christian by definition, but they do
worship Jesus Christ.
In your category, atheist (as opposed to agnostic and theist) clearly stand out

the pie - different enough to be listed as separate religions, just as
the separate versions of atheism are listed.
You have no idea what you're asserting. You have no idea what you're
talking about. That's obvious from the get-go.
I did the same math on your group that you did on mine. I came out
ahead. Fair is fair, loser.

Duke, I'm going to have to ask you for a cite on that figure you
just pulled out of your *****.
http://www.adherents.com/Religions_By_Adherents.html
Cut out 50% of 16% that are nonreligious, and divide the rest by 3,
and 2.5 comes up.
That falls in line with other "no longer remembered" links I've
seen.
I see. You've redefined it to bolster your opinion. Thou art full of
*****.
If you have a better number, give it a shot. Otherwise, accept that
you are a great minority.
We are a minority, but so are you. I count 13 religions inside
Christianity, which includes Mormons, which you have claimed are not
christian. Counting the "etc." as one, I get 2.35%, therefore we
outnumber you.
One small problem in your numbers, turkey.
Christians account for and **DO** make up 33% of the current world population -
2 billion strong.
Including Protestants (a hefty chunk of "Christianity"), Mormons,
Lutherans, Baptists...
Roman Catholics make up about 1.1 billion people... in the world.
Atheists/Agnostics/Secularists/Nonreligious make up about 1.3 billion
people... in the world.
We beat you out.
And adding in the Muslims who do worship the same God
almighty, make up 53% of the current world population.
Yet Muslims are not Christian.
Now, Mormons may not *technically* be Christian by definition, but they do
worship Jesus Christ.
So, they're not Christian. And in that case, neither are Othodox
Christians nor Protestants... since they don't cozy up to Roman
Catholicism on everything.
In your category, atheist (as opposed to agnostic and theist) clearly stand out
like a sore thumb. And sore thumb is very appropriate for you.
On a hand of sore thumbs, including Roman Catholicism, Protestantism,
Muslim...

Of course protest_ants (Luthers, Baptists) are Christians. Mormons are
technically not, but do worship Christ.
Roman Catholics make up about 1.1 billion people... in the world.
Atheists/Agnostics/Secularists/Nonreligious make up about 1.3 billion
people... in the world.
Correction = they along with theists make up less than 1 billion, half of which
are theists. That leaves 1/2 billion divided by three makes about 200 million
atheists in the world.
We beat you out.
Must be atheist arithmetic.
And adding in the Muslims who do worship the same God

Exactly right. They do worship the same God, however.

Of course Orthodox and Protest_ants are Christian. You have no idea what
you're talking about.

The really pathetic thing is that Duke has no joy in his life. Here
someone posts a piece of news that anyone- atheist or believer- can be
happy about, and all Duke can do is make a snide, nasty comment. He is
completely lacking in even the basic human joy of discovery.
Yes, he's a despicable maggot- but he also deserves your pity.
