Bonnet ripper, a genre of books aimed at elderly women. Story line

Sorry, never heard of a "bonnet ripper", though I do have a sister-in-law
that is overly fond of bodice rippers ;)

This reminds me of the time that my sister, not a great
reader, told me that she liked historical novels. I was reading
a lot of them at that time, Jean Plaidy, Margaret Campbell
Barnes, Norah Lofts, and the like, so I handed her one to try.
She thumbed through it, and said "Well, where are the hot
parts?"
"The what?"
"You know, the sexy parts." Then she handed me one of the
ones she was reading. Whoopsie!
"Where the hell did you buy this?" I asked, picturing a store
with the windows all painted black.
"At the drugstore," she told me. I read another couple of
pages.
"Hey, he can't do that with a *farthingale*! That only means
a sort of hoop-skirt, not a--"
"That's NOT THE POINT!!!" We had two different concepts--she
wanted soft porn with costumes, and I wanted history with
conversation. We agreed not to try to loan each other books
after that. :)

Bonnet ripper, a genre of books aimed at elderly women. Story line
good women, good, man, evil man. No sex. Historical background.
Grandma loves them. Anyone one know of the best of the current crop.
Sorry, never heard of a "bonnet ripper", though I do have a
sister-in-law
that is overly fond of bodice rippers ;)
