Well, who is going to blink first?
I agree with OPEC. Has there suddenly been an increase in
oil consumption? NO.
The Stockbroker are playing their money spinning Game.
Blame 'underproduction' rather than 'hording' for the problem.
No! OPEC should ride out the storm. If they do not and listen to
the market-manipulators the will find in a month or two that
their is a glut.

You know, I have a feeling you are right.
SUV's no! they were there before. But the US war
machine, gosh, now I did not know how environmentally
unfriendly they were!!
Makes sence now that OPEC *now decides to have more production.

During the summer months, fuel consumption is always higher, as are
the prices. Beside the point, illicit drug consumption/street price
is always higher during these months as well.
Rather than supply and demand, it's "stick it to 'em when they'll pay
more".

Yes, and that is what I was saying *originally. The problem is
the US war machine *actually is rather uneconomical on fuel.
And they are one of the *bigger consumers.
Somewhere I heard that they were responcible for
a fifth of the USA's oil consumption.

In part, perhaps.

SUV's no! they were there before.

If an SUV weighs more than xxxx pounds, you can write it
off on your taxes, according to some reports I saw about the
US tax codes recently. I can't remember exactly how many pounds
the xxxx is. A hummer would qualify, iirc.

But the US war machine, gosh, now I did not know how

I wonder when the US will ever tap into our own local reserves instead
of relying on some other country to do it? I guess we're trying to
hoard our local reserves in case of an even bigger emergency or
something like that.

I thought that less than half a million troops
would require a such a big an increase in

I thing I was wrong.

US production has been in decline since 1970 for reasons of geology,
almost exactly as predicted by M. King Hubbert in 1956. The US started
off with around 200 billion barrels of oil and now has about 26
billion left and depletes this at about 6% a year. Each year year that
6% is smaller so production is in terminal decline. See the ASPO
newsletter of November 2002
<http://www.asponews.org/ASPO.newsletter.023.php#109>. Note there is
an error in one of the tables. The mid point depletion date is 1973
not 2003.
The US oil production peak in 1970 came about 40 years after the US
oil discovery peak in 1930. Global oil discovery peaked in 1962 and
global oil production will peak......soon. $40 a barrel now is CHEAP.
Recent newsletters and work by energy investment advisor Matt Simmons
suggest that Saudi Arabia has inflated reserve figures and has much
less in spare capacity than its' PR (but not its' petroleum engineers)
claim. This is bad news. Global peak is expect 2007-2010.

Looks like Saudi Arabia will need a new source of revenue.
Say, you don't know any Presidents of a superpower that they own and
could use to capture them a new supply?
Oops, no, that was too soon.
