The Guardian
The American economy has failed to give George Bush a pre-election
boost as figures out yesterday showed slower than expected growth in
the third quarter of the year.
Separate data showed consumer confidence wilting under the effect of
high oil prices, which have pushed the price of petrol at the pumps
above the $2 a gallon level.
