King Arthur
May not be the critics choice but I think it would be worth seeing for a
modern, non-mythical interpretation of the classic tale.
Garfield
I fear it will be terrible...poor puddy tat!
Thunderbirds
Does anyone not think it will be a total dissaster? I saw the trailer and
it looks like the film makers have never even watched the show!

King Arthur
Garfield
Thunderbirds
A rental...
King Arthur is probably the worst Arthurian film made since Young King Arthur
back in 1975 with Oliver Tobias and Brian Blessed (and in a group which
contains the horrific "First Knight" that's saying a lot).
Garfield just isn't Garfield without Lorenzo Music's voice. Murray is a fine
actor but he just doesn't cut it.
I read something about Thunderbirds which was something like "Jonathan Frakes
once directed one of the greatest sci-fi action movies in history (First
Contact). What the hell was he thinking with this piece of shite?"

The thing about the Federation Universe that's always pissed me off is
the proximity of technology. Federation, Romulian, Klingon, are more
or less technologically equal - independently!. Heh. That is, IMO, a
good argument for ID.

This needs to be qualified. "Excalibur" is probably the best Arthurian film
ever made but it is FAR from proper. IMHO, a good Arthurian film has yet to be
made. I really hated Excalibur. In the early parts Nigel Terry still looked
like he was trying to play pimply-faced Prince John from "The Lion in Winter."
If I were to make an Arthurian movie (or series of movies) I'd use either Parke
Godwin's "Firelord" and "Beloved Exile" or Bernard Cornwell's Warlord
Chronicles ("The Winter King", "Enemy of God" and "Excalibur").
The people responsible for putting "Mists of Avalon" on celluloid should be
shot, drawn and quartered. It was a great book and they destroyed it with a
horrific screenplay.

The think about Arthur was that he *WAS* a pimply-faced kid when he
pulled the Sword out of the Stone. I believe most of the legends peg
his age at roughly fifteen at the time. Of course, I could be wrong
about that too...
So that, of course, is why Mr. Terry's Arthur had to look, and seem,
perhaps a little immature at the beginning.

My take on that is that you only really notice them _because_ they're
equal. Those with much more advanced technology don't even operate in
the same timespace as the Federation universe (or they stay pretty
much on their own "social level", so to speak), and those without
_any_ technology aren't out gallavanting around in space where most of
the stories take place. Every once in awhile, you'll see their
characters coming across something they don't understand - a
technology or civilization unlike anything they've experienced before
(and once in awhile, they're even something other than bipedal
humanoid primates, if you can believe it). Granted, they really could
go _so_ much farther with that aspect of it than they've done, but I
think they've given the subject a cursory nod here and there.

Right....
Mind you I'm about to leave for the cinema, and have only time to
observe that I would like to see Iain M. Banks's "The Culture" meet

The Mind's would outsmart the Feds no problem.

I can vouch for Garfield and King Arthur: they both sucked royally. But
at least King Arthur has Keira Knightly painted blue and running around
half-naked in a tight leather halter.
Hard to beat that, unless you see Catwoman, which also sucked royally
but has Halle Berry with short red hair running around half-naked in a
tight leather halter.

FWIW, they've all gotten absolutely awful reviews over on this side of
the pond, with "Garfield" and "Thunderbirds" tied for worst.

Jesus.
I'll just have to go to the pub then.
Mind you, that said, every time I go to the cinema, I meet the Goddess
Ishtar-Lilith. From a previous message:
Yesterday I went to the cinema to see Lord of the Rings III . Again.
On the way I popped into the Chinese restaurant over the road from the
cinema and had a bite to eat. On leaving to see the film at about
20:15 the Goddess Ishtar-Lilith appeared to me, and bade me deliver a
message to all mankind.
Do you believe me? If not, why not?
After all, you can verify the
existence of the cinema, the film, and the Chinese restaurant, and the
time and places. You can even place me in them; it's a big place and
there were maybe 500 witnesses to my presence. I can even show you the
ticket stubs, restaurant bill, and tell you what I ate and if you
hurry, prove it), and probably produce the CCTV footage from the
restaurant ('cos Stevenage is a hard place)..
But are you therefore compelled to believe that Ishtar-Lilith appeared
to me because I can prove the physical constituents of my story? That
I was where I said I was at the time I said I was, and can prove it in
any reasonable sense.

At least King Arthur as Keira Knightly, and Garfield has Jennifer
Love Hewitt ....

I used to watch a kids TV show called "Thunderbirds" when I was a young
child. It was a puppet show then. Is this a 'remake' of that old show?

Yup. And, the puppets looked just like the people
who did their voices. Of course, the Mysterons were
kind of cheesy and I had a habit of shouting "Silence is
golden" every time they said "SPECTRUM is green!",
but I really did enjoy that show. The first time I saw
Ed Bishop in "UFO", I said "That's Captain Blue!" Sure
enough, it turned out that Bishop had done Blue's voice.
The show's now available on DVD.
