OT Overhead Costs Consume Over Half The Budget For Iraq Reconstruction |
A federal oversight agency said today that the cost of things like
housing employees, processing paperwork and providing security has
consumed as much as 55 percent of the entire budget for some
reconstruction projects in Iraq, vastly reducing the amount of money
available for actual construction.
In fact, according to a report by the agency, the Special Inspector
General for Iraq Reconstruction, those administrative and overhead
costs, as they are known, may be claiming an even larger share of the
money - but the government does not keep proper track of how the $18.4
billion of American taxpayer-financed reconstruction money approved by
Congress two years ago is being spent.
Administration and overhead costs rarely claim more than a few percent
of the budget for comparable construction projects in the United
States.

But the entire reason for the war is to fill the coffers of the
contractors, so where is there a problem?

'Ripped off' implies that they're doing it without out knowledge.
They're doing it with our *cooperation*, if not our complicity and
blessing.

By 'we' I meant the American taxpayer. With the connivance of government
officials the money that is supposed to be going to the Iraqis doesn't
even make it as far as the East Coast. It makes an abrupt U-turn and
ends up in the pockets of Halliburton, KBR, Blackwater, etc. and their
stockholders and executives. The politicians, of course, get their
'rewards' too.
The Iraqi people and the American taxpayers get screwed.

Sans lube. That's almost always the case.

Of course not. Keeping track would be a responsible thing, and if they
did their 'best buds' would be in prison.
