Object: OT: Pay attention!
Before anybody says anything more about our evacuation, I want *everybody
here to look up the population of the metroplex (include suburbs) they
live in or the one that is nearest to them.
Figure 80% of that population and ask yourself if your state, counties,
and mayor(s) could move that many people with a couple of days warning.
Here, I'll get you started...
Houston and suburbs (frequently hit by hurricanes).
Population: 2.9 million in 1990 - evacuation: 2.3 million.
New York and suburbs (hurricanes do strike the East Coast sometimes).
Population: 16 million in 1990 - evacuation: 12.8 million.
Boston and suburbs.
Population: 2.8 million in 1990 - evacuation: 2.2 million.
Come on! It's fun! See how many people *your* officials would have to move
to match what ours did...

Were you in Blanco's office when she was discussing command of the LANG
with Brown? Maybe you were in Nagin's office when he was worrying about
liability claims before issuing the mandatory evacuation orders? Or on
Air Force One while Bush was meeting with them and Blanco asked for 24
hours to think something over?

Ask yourself, will people believe you when what you are doing is
sitting at a safe distance clicking a mouse? Or will they believe

You are wasting your time.

You're down to simple avoidance and hostility now, Mark. I guess you
just don't have anything to substantiate your claims about the things
that you *didn't* witness.

I'm not the one claiming to know something because I was there when I
wasn't there.

So reading a story is the same as being there?
I've been at enough events and then read the news story to know how likely
this is.
The last time my chief got his picture in the paper the headline read that
we had saved another home.
We had not. The temperature dropped and a room filled with smoke because of
an inversion over the chimney. We put some people on the roof to see if
there was the faintest chance of a chimney fire. There wasn't and that's the
story the paper got.
I heard the chief tell the owner of the paper that.
Had your president put somebody from the fire service in FEMA the complaints
would have been that the survivors had to turn away help because there was
to much of it.
We *always* try to send excessive resources to an incident. But we put lives
before property and it is much nicer to send the circling helicopter back to
base because it wasn't needed than to have to watch somebody die because we
have to wait 15 minutes.

The point you made was that Mark was not there. Neither were you.

But I read the story about somebody who *was* there, and Mark pretends
that he was there when he wasn't.

I mean you wouldn't accuse Mark of something you might do?

I'm not the one claiming to know something because I was there when I
wasn't there.

So reading a story is the same as being there?

Mark was not present when Blanco and Nagin met with the President.
I do not doubt for a minute that he has personal knowledge of evacuating
NO. But he told me that he was *THERE* and that I should shut up about
stuff that neither of us had personally witnessed.

I've been at enough events and then read the news story to know how
likely this is.

The last time my chief got his picture in the paper the headline read
that we had saved another home.
We had not. The temperature dropped and a room filled with smoke

Had your president put somebody from the fire service in FEMA the
complaints would have been that the survivors had to turn away help
because there was to much of it.

If there was too much help in one place that means that there wasn't any
help somewhere else.

We *always* try to send excessive resources to an incident.

I understand that, but there wasn't enough help to go around in the
first few hours after the storm had passed.

But we put
lives before property and it is much nicer to send the circling
helicopter back to base because it wasn't needed than to have to watch
somebody die because we have to wait 15 minutes.

Was Mark present when NOLA authorities refused to let the Red Cross
deliver supplies to the Superdome?

Your judgement is sadly lacking.

Unless you're saying "closer to the action" is some sort of metaphor.
Merriam Webster defines hyperbole as "extravagant exaggeration". That
describes every one of your posts. So maybe you have a point. A stopped
clock...

All I see is you making a

No, towelie, I was asserting that the writer does a very good job of

How would you know if you weren't actually there? You can't assert
something without prior knowledge. And something you read on the internet
doesn't cut it, Freddy.

You are claiming to have knowledge of something that you don't truly

Yes, and it was something you pulled out of your *****, like everything else

Why don't you dispute the obvious exaggerations and distortions put forth by
Republicans? Don't try to pretend there aren't any.

Too bad you're so far gone in
Bush Derangement Syndrome that you let it affect your judgement.

You act like I dislike Bush just for the hell of it. That is not the case
at all. I tried to like the guy early in '01, but it didn't take long for
my opinion of him to fall. After 9/11, I gave the man another chance. He
kept making the worst possible decisions many times, and it has added up. I
have hundreds of good reasons to dislike the man, and disagree with his
policies.
Now why do you like Bush so much? Because he "talks tough"? It certainly
can't be because of his policies. You're not that stupid.

I see no metaphors. I see no hyperbole.

Your judgement is sadly lacking.

Unless you're saying "closer to the action" is some sort of
metaphor.

Merriam Webster defines hyperbole as "extravagant exaggeration".
That describes every one of your posts. So maybe you have a point.
A stopped clock...

All I see is you making a
positive statement. You are asserting that you know what is going
on in Mosul, when in reality all you've done is read right-wing
blogs.

No, towelie, I was asserting that the writer does a very good job
of describing the action.

How would you know if you weren't actually there? You can't assert
something without prior knowledge. And something you read on the
internet doesn't cut it, Freddy.

You never did answer me on this: Did you read the article?

I don't have time to click on every URL I see. If you want me to read
it, post a fair use excerpt, and if it is interesting, I'll read it.

So you're commenting on an article that you didn't even bother to read, and
you complain that *I* asserted something without prior knowledge?
Hypocrite!

Was Mark a personal witness to what went on in Blanco's office? Did he
peronally witness the decision to *not* use the city buses to get people
out of NO? Did Mark personally witness Nagin's decision to delay the
mandatory evacuation orders?

Okay, I confess! New Orleans *doesn't *actually *exist. It's just a

You're down to simple avoidance and hostility now, Mark. I guess you
just don't have anything to substantiate your claims about the things
that you *didn't* witness.

So Fred, what's it like in that office and do you like flying on Air Force

All Mark has to go on is the fact that he was in NO and saw the results
while you were with the big shots.
You were with them right?

I mean you wouldn't accuse Mark of something you might do?

If I haven't seen some things, he's seen *nothing.
But, then, he told me at least once that witnessing things in person is
"irrelevant." Apparently (mis)reading websites gives him "perspective."
And while we're at it:
"We wanted soldiers, helicopters, food and water," said Denise Bottcher,
press secretary for Gov. Kathleen Babineaux Blanco of Louisiana. "They
wanted to negotiate an organizational chart."

Why, that sounds like something I heard around the newsgroup from some guy
living in the area who said FEMA was too busy with their org chart to
bother with food and water...
(Wonder who that was who said that?)
