-------------- Playboy Is Here To Stay ---------------------
OAK LAWN, IL. - Playboy magazine will remain available at
the public library in Oak Lawn, Ill., despite efforts to
ban the adult men's magazine to protect children. "I was
ticked off that some guy might be looking at Playboy when
my kids are there," Mark Decker, who asked Playboy be
removed from the library, told the Chicago Tribune. The
father of three said the photographs of undressed women in
the publication might provoke child molesters. (HUH? - Clayton)
Playboy was requested 44 times in 2004. Library officials in the
southwest Chicago suburb require proof of age to view the
magazine, which is stored in a secure area on the second
floor and does not share open shelf space with magazines
like Time or Newsweek. Playboy has been available in the
library's collection since 1973. That reminds me, I need
to renew my library card.

I used to work for one of the busiest library systems in the country,
and yes, Playboy is available. Not out in the open, you have to ask
for it. But it is available. And there is no age restriction. Which
would really get some peoples panties in a bunch, but the systeme does
not believe in censorship. They even have whole banks of unfiltered
web access computers. Or at least they used to, before the immoral right
got in the act and passed legislation that may have caused the system to
filter the computers.
Libraries are places to get information, irregardless of the kind of
information, and the media it is in. And Playboy does contain some
very worthwhile articles.

Regardless. Irregardless is a word that actually cancels itself out.
