Toll in TN, Pondicherry rises to over 7000

Chennai, Dec. 29 (PTI): The toll in the tsunami that swept across 13
coastal areas of Tamil Nadu and the Union Territory of Pondicherry on
Sunday has risen to more than 7000 today, according to reports reaching
here.
However, a top official of the Tamil Nadu Government put the toll
officially in the State at 6085 till this afternoon. The Pondicherry
administration said at least 500 lives were lost, including 400 in
Karaikal, an enclave of the Union Territory bordering Nagapattinam in
Tamil Nadu.
