OT: Punks for Bush |
http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/americas/3710263.stm
[Extract:]
Gotham Road is one a roster of bands who are anti-anti-
establishment - though they represent a small percentage
of the punk scene.
They are not raging against the machine - they are raging for it.
[...]
Nick Rizzuto is another self-styled conservative punk,
and the founder of conservativepunk.com.
The 22-year-old is a fan of the New York City punk band
Bouncing Souls, and has the tattoos to prove it.
But he identifies himself as capitalist punk, railing
against the left.
[...]
"I would see the conservative viewpoint as being more punk
than a liberal one..."
[End extract]
It makes sense in a wierd sort of way.
I have a mental image of the scene near the end of the movie
"The Commitments", where the punk is singing in a recording
studio, and he puts the entire microphone in his mouth and
screams. That's the extreme lunatic right's message in a
nutshell - nothing but incoherent screaming.

Nah, no true punk can be conservative. It's a contradiction in terms. They
might not necessarily be liberal, but the term conservative punk is an
oxymoron.

Traditionally, if that was your attitude, you joined the Bash Boys or
the Confederate Hammerskins or some fucking thing and went around with a
shaven head, goosestepping. That and the Christian punks mentioned a bit
further down the thread are just mind-blowing to me. Time to beat some
sense into the new schoolers. Again.
