OT. Saskatchewan priest charged with making child porn |
God, will it never end?
http://www.cbc.ca/storyview/MSN/2004/05/28/saskpriest_040528
REGINA - A 66-year-old Saskatchewan priest has been charged with sex-related
offences, including two counts of making child pornography.
Another falls from the moral high ground!
I wish they (priests) would just find a hooker(s) and get it over with,
surely there must be a 'religious' discount that can be applied. Or the
hookers may even take pity and do them for free.

1) they might get caught at it. Official line is that priest don't have any
bodily functions. If they used hookers, the hookers would have to sign a
form stating that they deny serving priests.
2) pedophilia is ok; doesn't break any biblical commandments and parents
trust the priesthood completely.
3) using children is also more convenient. Don't have to go outside the
church building.

4) being sensitised to the issue of sexual perversion among (Catholic?)
priests, those who oppose Catholicism select instances for that bias.
There is, I think, reason to believe that forcing men of either sexual
preference to remain celibate is asking for trouble, but this is an
administrative failing, as it were (asking more than can be reasonably
expected), not a principled one.
This is why priests in rural communities traditionally had a bit on the
side (up to and including popes), and why the Anglican and Orthodox
traditions do not require it of their priests. I believe it - the rule
of celibacy - occurred first as a way of preventing the bastards of
priests being left uncared for in a particular circumstance, and it
developed from their. I wish they'd drop it - the rule is not
theologically required.

The Catholic Church needs a total reform. As it stands now it tends to
attract the sort of people who might engage in this sort of thing. It's a
secretive society of sorts.

What good is a "reform" going to do? As long as it's a religion, it will
be a bunch of fools being conned into giving their money, time, and
support to some con men in the name of a fictional deity.

A couple of years ago, the Australians reported that the clergy was
responsible for more child abuse than any other branch of society,
by a long shot. Most believe that the same is probably true in the
US -- possibly even more, given the recent cases in the San
Francisco diocese.
"[Australian] lobbyist Robbie Swan argues "It is now an
established and obvious fact that the recently published Australian
Pedophile and Sex Offender Index listed 'Clergy, Church and Religion
related' as the largest identifiable group of offenders -- by almost
twice the size of the next group." Court records since the
publication of this references how the conviction of priests for
child sex abuse is running at 4:1 to other occupations. This means
that the church and religious orders in Australia could be producing
up to approximately one-third of the nation's pedophiles. Warming to
his argument, Swan points out "that if the same number of
church-based pedophiles had come from the sex industry, a
Parliamentary inquiry would have commenced years ago. The sex
industry and the church both employ approximately 20,000 people in
Australia. As it appears, the sex industry seems remarkable free of
convicted pedophiles ... no prostitutes, X-Video producers or sex
shop owners appeared on the Pedophile Index and none have been
recorded in court records since."

We all have to get along in this world, and I think a good start would not
to be a total *****. Think about it before you post nasty put-downs about a
billion people.

I'm an atheist. This particular plank isn't in my eye.

Yes yes yes. I would hope someone who proclaims themselves a free thinker
would also be wise enough not to judge people by the actions of their
ancestors or by the actions of the worst of their group.
Be a guiding light, set a good
example. as Jesus instructed as to do.
Whatever that means to me.

Why not quit being a jerk and hopefully show the self-righteous bigots that
you really don't have to behave like the worst of them. I'll tell you this,
be that kind of bombastic twit, and you won't see any change at all.

Celibacy was incorporated into the roman catholic church to prevent priests
from passing property to their offspring.
