OT (sorta, not really)...sports music choices |
I like it when they play "Anarchy In The UK" during local NHL games, as
well as "Losing My Religion." It just strikes me as odd when they do;
sports events don't seem like the arena for those kinds of songs. I
wonder if those songs are now reduced to nostaligic singalong songs for
my generation? Nah. Not the Sex Pistols. That music is still fabulously
offensive.

You missed out. In the old days, the arenas has an organist who
played for the crowd during stoppages in play.
I have never visited any NHL rinks, only hearing them on radio
and seeing them on TV, but anyone old enough to remember Chicago
Stadium will tell you about that one. The organ was part of the
building's _structure_ and when it was played, the building
physically rocked. That was what hockey was all about.
And a hockey organist was the only person to be suspended by any
sports league for his actions - not the San Diego Chicken or any
other person of that sort except perhaps Mark Cuban.
The organist in Toronto started playing "Three Blind Mice".

I didn't miss out, I was around for that too.

Yeah. And then they had the foghorn too.

I remember that.
It's just weird to me that they play those kind of songs. Especially
Anarchy in the UK, which is meant to incite.
