Spain's socialist Prime Minister, Jose Luis Rodriguez Zapatero, has
been forced to defend a decision to sell arms worth =801.3bn (=A3900m)
to the left-wing Venezuelan President, Hugo Chavez, in a deal condemned
by the opposition as "a monstrous error".
In Spain's biggest arms deal for many years, its arms factories will
supply 10 C-295 transport planes, four coastal patrol corvettes and
four smaller coastguard patrol boats to Mr Chavez's army. Mr Zapatero
said the vehicles would be used to monitor coastlines, combat terrorism
and drug traffickers, and mount rescue operations during natural
disasters. The deal was announced by the Spanish Prime Minister during
a visit to Venezuela yesterday when he also met fellow left-wing
leaders from Colombia and Brazil.

Yeah, how can the US invade them easily if these countries are
able to defend themselves? Never mind that stable countries
could do more themselves to stop the drug trade then American
interference and external dictatorship ever could. I guess
Shrub just wants to ensure his coke supply isn't interrupted.
It seems many South America countries are heading toward free
market economies with democratic socialism at their core, but
just as importantly, they are willing to work cooperatively for
each other's good. It seems they've learned the best from both
the left and the right and put them together in a good way, and
in some ways, better than the Europeans.
But of course, self-determination and improving the lives of the
respective countries' citizens is against "American interests",
so it's dangerous and must be stopped.

Yeah, how can the US invade them easily if these countries are
able to defend themselves?

They wouldn't be able to defend themselves if we really wanted to invade
them. On the other hand, they will be able to threaten their neighbors.

Never mind that stable countries
could do more themselves to stop the drug trade then American
interference and external dictatorship ever could.

Yes, their *internal* dictatorships will be stable.

I guess
Shrub just wants to ensure his coke supply isn't interrupted.

And an egregious insult to top it off.

It seems many South America countries are heading toward free
market economies with democratic socialism

Free markets and socialism are contradictory.

at their core, but
just as importantly, they are willing to work cooperatively for
each other's good.

So much for "self-determination".

It seems they've learned the best from both
the left and the right and put them together in a good way, and
in some ways, better than the Europeans.

It wouldn't be hard to put things together better than the Europeons.

But of course, self-determination and improving the lives of the
respective countries' citizens is against "American interests",
so it's dangerous and must be stopped.

Do you practice putting so much doublethink together or does it come
naturally?

*lol* Yeah, I'm sure Venezuela is going to invade Brazil any day
now... just for the beach babes :-) Especially with Hercules
transports and coastal corvettes!

Their recent purchases of AK-47's and artillery pieces are a little more
worrisome. Brazil isn't the only country they share a border with.
Besides putting gunboats in the Carribean Sea.

We know. But we look at capabilities and threats, not presumed motives.

No kidding. The brain dead fuckwits in Washington haven't the first

democratically elected government Chavez would be stupider than the
