By rights, Apple should have folded years ago, taking its university
drop-out founder down with it. Instead, both boss and company are
thriving, with their cheap version of the revolutionary iPod
technology set to consign the CD to history.

Sir, I wish I could accurately give you a huge roll-eyes on
Usenet.
The iPod has the same problems as other Lithium-Ion batteries,
and the funny thing is, you can get it fixed. My iPod is one of
the best purchases I have ever maid, and the "short" battery life
is hardly an issue.

Typical Apple. Their $295.00 Apple floppy drives had fewer electronics and
were far flimsier than the $100.00 floppy available for the rest of the
world.
They did in software what everybody else did in hardware so they were also
slower.
But remember the genesis of it all. Who can build the cheapest computer was
the contest they won with the original Apple.

My iPod is the first Apple product I have ever owned, and it's a
wonderful piece of hardware. The battery issue is just
stupid--every product using Lithium-Ion batteries has the same
issue.

??? My Yasua VX-5 has a Li-on battery. It was used when I bought it and
I've had it for over two years with no battery problem.

I'm assuming you mean a USB floppy drive or an Imation SuperDisk
(which no one except Apple seems to use anymore), because a standard
internal PC floppy drive is $7 at newegg.com.

They did in software what everybody else did in hardware so they were also
slower.
But remember the genesis of it all. Who can build the cheapest computer was
the contest they won with the original Apple.

And then they ran that ad about Big Brother and how Apple wasn't,
only when it came down to it, the Mac was as closed as closed
architecture gets, and the IBM-clones became off-the-shelf components.
Funny how Apple became the very thing it railed against.

Considering that the battery can be replaced for $50, I really
don't see what the problem is.

The iPod has the same problems as other Lithium-Ion batteries,

*Now* it can be replaced for $50, after the ***** hit the fan.
Of course, you still have to crack open the case, which takes
