Study: Chickadee chirps complex code
WASHINGTON (Reuters) -- Those cheery-sounding chirps coming from the
tree in the back yard are carrying more than a joyful message -- they
are conveying surprisingly complex information about lurking
predators, biologists reported on Thursday.

[My favorite part of the whole article:]
"I guess the take-home message is this is probably true of many
animals. Many animals communicate much more sophisticated information
than we realize because we are not in a position to understand their
language," Templeton said.
Just thought this might be of interest as it once again demonstrates
how very non-extraordinary we really are compared to the rest of the
natural world, and how very natural those things so many of us see as
"special" really are.
