O.T. Tet 1968 |
The fundies are saying that the liberal media did not report the
"devastating?" defeat of General Giap's Tet offensive, causing the
populace of America to turn against the war insuring our defeat by
American dissenters encouraging the Viet Cong.
A. ) Was the 1968 Tet offensive a complete route for the V.C.?
B.) Was it General Giap's intent to capture Saigon or just to harass
the American forces until they left which they did.
C. ) Didn't the Vietnamese route the Chinese army? No dissent there
was there?
Anyone know the more or less accurate answers to these questions?

Bush also turned against the Vietnam War by conveniently not going, why
aren't the fundies blaming him for losing the war?

Utterly. They were destroyed for the most part, and the campaign had
to be taken up by regular PAVN forces.
B.) Was it General Giap's intent to capture Saigon or just to harass
the American forces until they left which they did.
Not Saigon, but to severely disrupt the leadership of the RVN and
destroy morale in both the South and in the US. Didn't work, except
when the images of Marines trying to retake our own embassy, and the
shots of Marines fighting in Hue.. that brought more main-stream
Americans into the anti-war camp.
C. ) Didn't the Vietnamese route the Chinese army? No dissent there
was there?
That came later, and is disputed by both sides. In 1979, Vietnam
kicked the Khmer Rouge's *****.
Anyone know the more or less accurate answers to these questions?
There are several great books on Tet 68.

It was very successful. He wanted to stun the American people with TV
images of dead Americans, and make us question the price we were willing
to pay to win a war many thought we should not be fighting anyway.
