Kerry knew months ago that values mattered to voters. So why didn't he
keep talking about them?

Nov. 9 - Standing around the baggage carousel at Washington's Reagan
National airport last week, the passengers arriving from Boston looked
and sounded shell-shocked. "This was going to be the new government,"
said one senior Kerry aide as he hauled away a black suitcase
containing the paperwork for a transition that would never take place.
Maybe it's too early for those closest to the campaign to figure out
what why John Kerry isn't naming cabinet secretaries right now. But
the senior aide, like so many others, could only shrug his shoulders
and mention "moral values"—the exit poll category that surprised so
many politicos by topping the list of issues cited by voters.
